Lama Tsewang Lhakpa

Venerable Lama Tsewang is a very knowledgeable, skilled and highly regarded monastic teacher who has practiced all the key rituals of the Palpung Karma Kagyu Buddhist Lineage and Tasmania is very blessed to have him as the Institute’s Resident Lama, since 2009.

Lama is loved and well respected by the many individuals, groups and organisations within Tasmania who have come to know him through his dedicated service to the community. We feel truly blessed and privileged to have had his guidance with our spiritual practice and to be part of a wonderful dharma family that has grown and flourished under his care.

With the blessings of the lineage, we have the good fortune to call on our resident Lama for spiritual advice with our practice, and for fulfilling our requests for teaching, personal retreat and support in the form of formal pujas and blessings, in all aspects of life and in death. With respect to such Lama services, donations are customary.

Please approach the Institutes’ office with an email written request. The office will assist you with making a formal request to our Lama and can give advice on the level of donation suited to the Lama service provided.

As a guide, the Lama services provided to students upon request, are:

  • Mala blessings

  • House blessings

  • Prayers and Pujas for the sick

  • Prayers and Pujas for those who have passed, 49 days prayer cycle with weekly Pujas of Amitabha, Akshobhya, Vajrasattva and Red Chenrezig (Khorwa Dongtruk) with one hundred butterlamps.

His Eminence the 9th Chungpo Gyalton Rinpoche

For several decades, Rinpoche has been teaching the Buddha Dharma at numerous centres affiliated with Palpung Sherabling Monastery and other centres. He officially represents H.H 12th Chamgon Kenting Tai Situpa on official travels. Rinpoche shares a deep connection with him as his heart disciple and also maintain a very close connection with His Holiness the 17th Gyalwang Karmapa Orgyen Trinley Dorje, accompanying him on various activities, such as the annual Kagyu Monlam Chenmo in Bodhgaya.

Since 2020, he has been appointed as one of the main teachers transmitting the “Discovering the Buddha Within” program around the world. Receiving teachings from Rinpoche is akin to receiving teachings directly from guru to disciple. Speaking perfect English, he imparts each teaching with words of truth filled with kindness and wisdom, in a direct, simple, and compassionate style. Attentive and well-informed about contemporary issues, he is particularly appreciated for his responses to questions from both young people and adults.

Venerable Khenpo Phurba Wangchuk

Venerable Khenpo Phurba Wangchuk was born into a family of nomads in eastern Tibet. At age ten he joined Tsa Tsa monastery which is a branch of Palpung Sherabling. At Tsa Tsa monastery Khenpo La learnt basic Buddhist studies and Tibetan language.

Khenpo La left Tibet and arrived in India in 2000. In 2001 he joined the monastic university program of Palpung Sherabling called the Shedra.  In 2004 Khenpo La became the GeGo or Discipline Master of Palpung Sherabling Shedra.

In 2008 Khenpo La was appointed to be a philosophical debate and training partner with His Holiness the 17th Gyalwa Karmapa.

In 2013 Khenpo La graduated as a fully qualified Khenpo and has remained at Palpung Sherabling Shedra for the past eleven years teaching the next generation of Lamas and monks in Buddhist philosophy.

Over the years Khenpo La has received many teaching, initiations and transmissions from great lineage masters including His Holiness the Dalai Lama, His Holiness Tai Situpa Rinpoche, His Holiness the Gyalwa Karmapa, His Holiness Sakya Trizin, the Very Venerable Thrangu Rinpoche, the Very Venerable Mingyur Rinpoche and many others.
